Major General Nilatha Premaratne, a prominent senior officer representing the Sri Lanka Artillery, has been appointed to the post of Chief of Staff, the second-highest position in the Sri Lanka Army. Defence sector sources state that this new appointment, made as the 69th Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army, will be effective from yesterday (29).
This promotion and appointment have been made by the President, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, based on a special recommendation from the Army Commander.Prior to his appointment to this responsible position, Major General Nilatha Premaratne was an experienced and capable officer who had played a significant role, holding high-level positions in operational as well as many key areas of the Army. Army Headquarters points out that he, a distinguished military member produced by the Sri Lanka Artillery, has made a commendable contribution to safeguarding the unity and sovereignty of the motherland during his more than thirty years of military service.
In accordance with military traditions and customs, he is scheduled to officially commence his duties in his new post at Army Headquarters within the next few days.
