Kurunegala Deputy Mayor who went to accept bribes remanded.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Kasun Kanchana Dissanayake has ordered that Mohammed Moyunudeen, the Deputy Mayor of the Kurunegala Municipal Council, who was arrested by the Bribery Commission and produced before the court on charges of attempting to obtain a bribe of Rs. 3 million to award the tender for cleaning the Kurunegala bus stand and public toilets to a businessman, be remanded until the 21st.




A one-time payment of Rs. 3 million was requested for awarding the tender, along with monthly payments of Rs. 500,000. The suspect was arrested in the Battaramulla area while attempting to receive the initial payment of Rs. 3 million and was produced before the court.

The Magistrate rejected the bail application made by the panel of lawyers representing the suspect Deputy Mayor and ordered the suspect to be remanded. The Magistrate also ordered that investigations into the incident be concluded and a report be filed with the court on the 21st.
