Twenty-four-year-old nursing student Adrianna Luna knew she was pregnant when she went for an ultrasound at a medical center in Corpus Christi, Texas. However, she was greatly surprised when the doctor first showed two fetal sacs on the screen, then three, and finally four.
She informed her 26-year-old boyfriend, prison officer Anthony Lerma, via a text message, and he thought it was a joke until he saw the scan photo. It took about a full week for the shock and surprise of the couple expecting extremely rare quadruplets to subside. The probability of conceiving identical quadruplets growing within the same fetal sac is an extremely rare condition, about one in fifteen million. This high-risk pregnancy was carried out under strict medical supervision, and on February 14, these four girls were born via C-section at Corpus Christi Medical Center. At that time, the pregnancy was twenty-nine weeks and four days along, and at birth, each girl weighed slightly more than three pounds. After birth, they received treatment in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for several weeks, learning to breathe and feed, and were then discharged home one by one.
The number of family members for the Luna and Lerma couple, who are already parents to a three-year-old boy, thus increased from three to seven at once. They had decided on the names for the children even before their birth, and accordingly, they named the four girls Amora, Analia, Arya, and A'zura, all starting with the English letter 'A'. The name Arya was chosen from a character in the 'Game of Thrones' series, and A'zura was chosen for its uniqueness. Currently, family relatives have also set up a GoFundMe fund to meet the daily needs of all four girls, including formula, diapers, and other necessities. Lerma, who is a father of twins himself, says that this unique bond among his four daughters is extremely rare and blessed.
