This morning, the Speaker informed the Secretary-General of Parliament to remove Member of Parliament Chamara Sampath from the Parliament chamber to enable the smooth conduct of future parliamentary proceedings, as he had behaved unlawfully and contemptuously in Parliament.
The reason for this was his comments criticizing a court ruling.
Mr. Chamara Sampath Dasanayake had requested the court through his lawyers to relax the foreign travel ban imposed on him to travel to China from the 23rd to the upcoming 6th. Although the ban was agreed to be relaxed in one of the cases against him, it was not relaxed in the other case.
Distressed by this, the MP came to the Speaker's office yesterday and attempted to meet the Speaker, but the Speaker had instructed not to let him in because he had forcibly entered the room. (It was also this MP who previously spread rumors about an illicit affair at the Speaker's office)
Claiming that he had been unfairly treated by the court due to this incident and that he had not received support from the Speaker, MP Chamara Sampath began to curse and swear, also expressing his sorrow over losing his trip to China.
MP Chamara continued to shout, blaming the Bribery Commission and the Speaker, and with the knowledge of the Secretary-General of Parliament, the Speaker ordered Chamara Sampath to be expelled from the chamber.
