A special delegation from the International Cricket Council (ICC), who are in the island to investigate cricket administration in Sri Lanka, met with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in Colombo today (17) and held discussions. A delegation including International Cricket Council Vice Chairman Imran Khwaja and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devajit Saikia participated in this special meeting with the President.
Media reports indicated that the main purpose of these officials' visit to Sri Lanka was to inquire into the new nine-member interim governing committee of Sri Lanka Cricket, recently appointed by Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage under the chairmanship of Mr. Eran Wickramaratne. Accordingly, during the discussions with the President, strong attention was paid to the new administration of Sri Lanka Cricket and the structural reforms being carried out within it.
It is said that this visit by International Cricket Council officials, following the recent changes in Sri Lanka Cricket's administration, will be very crucial for the future progress of cricket in the country. Before meeting the President, this delegation also held discussions yesterday (16) at the Sri Lanka Cricket headquarters with the Cricket Transformation Committee and new administrative officials, and they are scheduled to officially meet the Sri Lanka Cricket Interim Committee tomorrow.
