What would happen if hundreds of dinosaurs, as if sprung from a movie, suddenly invaded a university campus? Instead of a terrifying experience, it recently turned into a wonderful event that rewrote history, bringing boundless smiles to people's faces.

The University of Calgary (UCalgary) in Alberta, Canada, entered the Guinness World Records book on April 11th by gathering 682 people dressed in dinosaur costumes in one place. This historic record was set during a special event called "Community Day" or 'Rex's Jurassic Jamboree,' organized to celebrate the university's 60th anniversary.

A large crowd, including university students, lecturers, alumni, and young children, gathered for this wonderful occasion. Some even brought their pet dogs, dressed in dinosaur costumes, which was a delightful sight for everyone. Dressed in beautiful, air-filled giant dinosaur costumes of dark red, orange, green, and yellow, the participants enjoyed boundless happiness, momentarily forgetting the intense stressful atmosphere prevalent in the current world.

This was not merely a random occurrence. The official name of the University of Calgary's sports teams is "Dinos," and the region is famous for dinosaur fossils, which gives this record a more special meaning for them. The previous record, set by 468 people in Florida, USA, in January 2025, was completely broken here. Prior to this, a similar attempt was made in Drumheller, Alberta, but it failed due to technical errors. This time, they meticulously executed all their plans.

Setting a Guinness World Record was by no means an easy task. According to the prescribed Guinness rules, all participants' bodies, excluding their feet, had to be completely covered by a dinosaur costume, and no dragon or any other animal form could be included. The entire university grounds remained in strict silence and suspense until Guinness officials and drone cameras completed the final count. However, as soon as the officials announced the first digit of the final result, "six," the entire crowd cheered and embraced each other, celebrating their victory.

"The old record is now extinct. This is a perfect example of our university and the Calgary community coming together to set a world record," proudly stated Mr. Ed McCauley, President of the University of Calgary. Verity Turpin, Associate Vice-President (Student Affairs) at the university, said that such events bring wonderful relaxation and happiness to people amidst serious global events. For many participants, especially recent graduates like Keshni Bistoo and staff member Laura Von, this was a valuable opportunity to be part of history.

Amidst the reverberation of Queen's famous song "We Are the Champions," that wonderful evening, where hundreds of giant dinosaurs danced together, will be remembered not just as a world record but as a living testament to the eternal beauty of human connections.
