Special trains for those returning to Colombo today (18) and tomorrow (19)

The Sri Lanka Railways Department has added several special trains to facilitate the return of people who traveled to their hometowns for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year holidays, enabling them to reach their workplaces and homes. The Office of the General Manager of Railways, issuing a statement to the Government Information Department, states that these special train services will operate on April 18 and 19, 2026.

In addition to the regular train schedule, these special trains have been added, centering on the areas of Anuradhapura, Kankesanthurai, Matara, and Beliatta.

Accordingly, several special train services will operate between Colombo Fort and Anuradhapura on April 18 and 19. A train departing from Colombo Fort at 7:40 AM is scheduled to arrive in Anuradhapura at 11:35 AM, and that train will depart from Anuradhapura again at 2:00 PM and arrive at Colombo Fort at 6:05 PM. Additionally, on both these days, another special train departing from Colombo Fort at 6:40 AM and arriving in Anuradhapura at 10:38 AM is scheduled to depart from Anuradhapura again at 10:50 AM on the same day and arrive at Colombo Fort at 2:54 PM. A special train will also operate between Kankesanthurai and Anuradhapura on the Northern railway line on April 18 and 19. It is scheduled to depart from Kankesanthurai at 6:00 AM and arrive in Anuradhapura at 10:18 AM, and then depart from Anuradhapura again at 10:50 AM and arrive at Kankesanthurai at 2:22 PM.

Several special trains have also been added to operate on the coastal line for people traveling from the Southern Province. On April 18 only, a train departing from Maradana at 1:00 PM will arrive in Matara at 4:37 PM, and on April 19, a special train departing from Matara at 11:15 AM is arranged to arrive in Maradana at 2:47 PM. Furthermore, on April 18, a train departing from Maradana at 4:40 PM will arrive at Beliatta railway station at 8:40 PM. Additionally, the Railway Department further states that a special train starting its journey from Beliatta at 8:20 AM on both April 18 and 19 is scheduled to arrive in Maradana at 12:30 PM.
