Woman's hair cut - accused of theft from Ragama Araliya shop

A cruel assault on a woman and the cutting of her hair has been reported at the 'Araliya Gift Center' shop in Ragama, claiming she was caught stealing items for sale there. Videos showing this violence were circulated on social media, and five individuals, including the main suspect, have so far been apprehended by the law.

Police investigators, who located the victim woman who faced these inhumane abuses, have recorded a necessary statement from her regarding the incident. Subsequently, the police have also taken steps to refer her to the Ragama Teaching Hospital for relevant medical examinations.

As a result of extensive investigations carried out by the police, those arrested are a 27-year-old woman residing in the Ragama area, who is the main suspect in the incident, and four other individuals. The other four suspects are aged 20, 21, 22, and 23, and have been identified as residents of Rajanganaya, Kadawatha, Ragama, and Trincomalee Chinabay areas.

This group of arrested suspects is scheduled to be produced before the Welisara Magistrate's Court on 2026.04.18. Further investigations related to the incident are being carried out under the direction of Ragama Police.
