Dusheni who left 'toxic' love and went in search of true love

Hidden from camera lenses and media attention, popular small-screen star couple Dusheni Miyurangi and Chathuranga Kodithuwakku entered into marriage yesterday (05) at a simple ceremony held in Bolgoda, as a result of a love built in silence. Their sudden marriage surprised many, as they had kept their love story hidden from the outside world until they emerged as a married couple.

Dusheni Imeka Miyurangi de Silva's birthday is June 20, 1995. Born in Matara, she grew up in Kurunegala and is said to have a younger brother. She is the winner of Miss Sri Lanka World 2017, representing Sri Lanka at the Miss World pageant. She knows Sinhala, English, and Hindi languages. It is also said that she has completed an Accounting / CIMA course. However, she has many unusual experiences regarding love. 

Before reaching this peaceful turning point, Dusheni's life had two major romantic relationships that received significant media attention. She herself stated that the publicity received after the breakdown of past relationships was detrimental to her mental well-being. This was a major reason for keeping her relationship with Chathuranga a secret.

Her first public relationship was with actor and model Anuj Ranasinghe. This new star couple, who were seen together on Hiru Copy Chat and Hiru Mega Star programs in mid-2017, were reported by the media at the time to be lovers in real life as well. Anuj also attended the event where Dusheni won the Siyatha Miss World Sri Lanka crown in September 2017, and at a press conference held on October 04 of that year, Dusheni stated that Anuj was her best friend and that his experiences from the Mr. Sri Lanka competition and international events had been very helpful to her. However, by around March 2020, it was learned that this relationship had ended and Anuj had started a new relationship with a flight attendant.

Meanwhile, Dusheni distanced herself somewhat from the art field. Although gossip spread that the emotional trauma of separating from Anuj was the cause, according to reports published in April 2025, Dusheni herself confirmed that she had been silent due to poor health. She later went to India and worked as a model, returning to Sri Lanka with the COVID-19 pandemic. The teledrama "Paara Dige" in 2021 became a significant turning point in her popularity. Anuj, who currently lives in Auckland, New Zealand, is still connected to the industry. The story concept for the film "Rosa Adare," screened in January 2025, is also his.

Subsequently, the most public relationship in Dusheni's life was formed with actor Sachin Liyanage. The two became close while acting in the teledrama "Sansarini" in 2023. On March 30, 2024, at the Raigam Tele'es Awards ceremony, Dusheni, while receiving the Most Popular Actress of the Year award, publicly named Sachin as the closest person who inspired her after her mother and father. Later, in an interview with Tharindu Welhena, she reiterated that Sachin was the most valuable person in her life.

However, obstacles also arose in this love story. In March 2025, Sandun Rajakaruna, the director of the teledrama "Mayavi," issued a long statement to his staff, saying that conflicts arose because an actress stayed on long video calls with her boyfriend during filming, and since she suddenly left the set, she had to be removed from the production. Although Sachin's name was not directly mentioned here, the media identified him as Sachin. There was no response from Dusheni's side regarding this matter.

By late December 2025, their separation was confirmed via social media. Regarding the breakup, Dusheni told the media that although there was nothing she didn't do for him, the suspicions and false accusations went beyond limits. She stated, "A toxic love, a love that is not understood, will not move forward. I am alone now. We are not angry. We talked and separated. So I am not sad."

Meanwhile, around January 25, 2026, Sachin stated that he is now living alone. Without directly mentioning Dusheni's name, he said, "Love becomes beautiful when you love honestly without deceiving. It's a normal phenomenon to get together when you realize you're compatible, and to separate when you realize you're not compatible after some time. It's freer to go separate ways than to stay together and suffer with incompatibilities."

While Dusheni's statement raised suspicions and accusations, Sachin's side spoke of honesty and incompatibility. Although excessive control, jealousy, insults, or psychological harm are typically characteristics of a "toxic" relationship, despite the public statements from both parties, there is no independent evidence of what truly transpired. Therefore, no one has the right to label either party as "toxic." In reality, going through several relationships to choose the most compatible partner is not "toxic" behavior; it is a normal journey that occurs in many people's lives.

Dusheni and Chathuranga met during the filming of the teledrama "Jahuta." Before their marriage, she described Chathuranga as a calm, patient, and peaceful person. She said, "We haven't known each other for a long time. I realized that he understands me, and I understand him. That peacefulness is important for spending a lifetime together. I feel that I have also become very peaceful. I don't think the way I used to. We understand everything as we age." In an interview with Rangana de Silva, she further stated that if a woman who has worked hard for years to build a professional career gets an unsupportive husband, she could lose everything, and Chathuranga is a supportive partner who understands her.

Dusheni has now marked the end of that normal journey. Although both have separate homes, they plan to live in the same house after marriage. As per the mother's request, after boiling milk, Chathuranga will traditionally enter the house as the head of the household and Dusheni as the wife. Their second ceremony is planned for October 12, following yesterday's event.

Bidding farewell to a past filled with suspicion, accusations, and media commotion, Dusheni has finally chosen a quiet, peaceful love instead of a tumultuous one. The new journey of this star couple, who have entered life with new hopes, has begun and concluded.
