BYD is preparing to introduce its latest pickup truck, named 'Mako', after the world's fastest shark, and it is primarily expected to compete with the Fiat Toro in the market. This new vehicle, which can be described as a battle between land and sea, is planned to be manufactured at the Camaçari plant in Brazil and is reportedly scheduled for an official launch in September this year.
The BYD Mako vehicle will enter the market as an extension of the company's 'Ocean' series, adopting a naming convention that, like the existing 'Shark' model, evokes the fierce predators of the ocean. BYD's main objective is to expand its influence in the pickup truck segment, which is dominated by powerful models such as the Fiat Toro, Ram Rampage, and Ford Maverick.
From a technical perspective, this new pickup truck is expected to introduce an innovative Hybrid Flex technology to the Brazilian market. Based on the architecture of the Song Pro model, this vehicle is set to operate on a 'plug-in hybrid' system, combining an internal combustion engine with an electric system.
The power of this vehicle is estimated to be around 235 horsepower, and one of its most important features is the ability to travel approximately 100 km on electric mode alone, depending on the conditions and version. According to customer needs, 4x2 models will be produced for professional use, as well as 4x4 models for those seeking a more rugged driving experience.
Although the exact exterior appearance of the BYD Mako has not yet been officially revealed, its first official appearance is expected to take place at Agrishow, Latin America's largest agricultural exhibition. However, according to current information, the vehicle's appearance resembles the BYD Song Plus model, and its interior digital panel and multimedia system are also reported to be similar to that model's setup.
