A purge of the manager and employees from a ready-made clothing store in Pettah.

Four employees, including the manager of a well-known ready-made clothing store located in the Pettah area of Colombo, have been arrested by the police in connection with an incident involving the theft of cash and a stock of clothes worth approximately sixty-two lakh rupees.




This investigation was initiated based on a complaint made to the Pettah Police by a 34-year-old businessman residing in the Rudra Mawatha area of Wellawatte. In his complaint, he stated that a sum of 32 lakh rupees and a stock of ready-made clothes worth approximately 30 lakh rupees, which were prepared for sale, had gone missing from his showroom located on Sea Street, Hettiveediya, Pettah, between the first and twelfth of this month.

Following extensive questioning of the arrested main suspect, the store manager, investigators were able to recover the stolen 32 lakh rupees hidden at his residence on St. Mary's Road, Mattakkuliya. The other three suspects arrested in connection with this incident are sales assistants working at the same store, and the police state that they are residents of Nortonbridge, Ragala, and Nuwara Eliya, aged between 17 and 42 years.




As information has been revealed that several other employees of the establishment are involved in this large-scale theft, they are also expected to be arrested in the future. Arrangements have been made to produce the suspects currently in custody before the court, and further investigations are being conducted by a team of officers, including the OIC of the Criminal Investigation Division, Police Inspector A.M.K. Alahakoon, under the guidance of the OIC of Pettah Police, Chief Police Inspector Samantha de Silva.
