There is currently significant attention on an unprecedented series of attacks launched by Iran against the Gulf region, including the United Arab Emirates. While the UAE has been making strenuous efforts to de-escalate regional conflicts through dialogue and diplomatic interventions, Iran has launched these illegal and unjust attacks.

It is noteworthy that the targets of these attacks are not only American bases in the region but also hotels and civilian infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates. According to reports, the UAE's air defense system has successfully destroyed over 137 ballistic missiles and more than 200 drones launched by Iran in the air. Authorities emphasize that they possess one of the best air and missile defense systems in the world and have full confidence in their ability to protect the country's infrastructure and the safety of its people through it. Although the loud noises during the interception of the attacks caused some fear among the public, it has been confirmed that the damage caused was mostly due to falling missile debris. Therefore, the government assures that every possible step will be taken to ensure the safety of all citizens, both expatriates and locals. Regarding this, a spokesperson for the UAE government made the following remarks to CNN:

What is the scale of targets and casualties so far, and what else is the UAE preparing for today?

Thank you very much for having me. This is truly an unprecedented time for us. This is what we have tried to avoid over the past weeks and months by encouraging dialogue and de-escalation. Unfortunately, we are now in a situation where Iran has launched attacks not only on the UAE but also on the rest of the Gulf region and beyond through very unjust and very illegal actions. This is something we do not accept at all. We have one of the best defense systems in the world. And we are confident that we will be able to continue to support our infrastructure and protect the people who live here. As you mentioned, I know this is a frightening time for many residents, because you're right; we don't normally hear such loud noises. But at the same time, those are the sounds of missiles being destroyed in the air, and where there has been damage, it is primarily debris. So I think it's important to reconfirm to the people of the UAE, both expatriates and locals, that we have one of the best air and missile defense systems in the world, and we are doing everything to continue to ensure our safety and security.

These threats were primarily aimed at US bases across this region and in the UAE. But these attacks have broadened beyond that. For example, I see attacks on things like hotels and civilian infrastructure in the UAE. How much worse do you fear this could get? And how do you feel about the targeting here?

Whatever way they want to operate, we are ready for it. We certainly do not want any further escalation of conflict. We are calling for calm and measured responses. But equally, as you mentioned earlier, over 137 ballistic missiles and over 200 drones have been destroyed in the air by the UAE's defense system. We continue to call for de-escalation. We are working with our partners around the world, and since this has taken on a large regional character with other countries in the Gulf region also being drawn into this, we are receiving not only support and coordination from partners but also strong condemnations of this. You called for de-escalation, arguing that diplomacy is the only way forward. We have now seen official statements from the UAE and the Gulf region condemning the attacks, as well as the clear message, "we reserve the right to retaliate."

What will that response be like?

That will depend on the evolving situation. It's a very rapidly changing and dynamic situation at the moment. But the people of this country can be assured that we will not miss any steps we can take to protect ourselves, and we are prepared for that. We hope it won't come to that, but equally, we will not stand by silently while continuously being subjected to such a series of attacks that are illegal and unjust.
