Two foreign workers have died after a drone crashed in the Al-Awahi industrial zone in Sohar, Oman. In this incident reported on March 13, 2026, the deaths occurred due to the debris of a drone thwarted by air defense systems, and several others were injured.
Omani state media and news agencies report that a second drone crashed in an open area in the Sohar region concurrently with this attack. However, no fatalities or injuries have been reported from that incident, and Omani authorities have now launched a comprehensive investigation into both accidents.
This drone attack is considered another extension of the escalating US-Iran-Israel conflicts in the region, as well as the series of Iranian drone and missile attacks occurring across the Gulf region. In recent days, similar drone attacks have targeted oil and fuel infrastructure in Omani port cities like Salalah and Duqm. Apart from incidents such as a previous attack on a ship off the Omani coast which killed one Indian national, most previous attacks had not reported significant casualties.
Oman, which typically acts as a neutral and peaceful mediator in regional conflicts, has strongly condemned the attacks targeting its territory this time. Although no party has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, Omani authorities emphasize that they will take all necessary security and preventive measures to ensure the national security of their country.
