The Department of Meteorology states that the severe dry weather conditions currently prevailing across Sri Lanka will remain unchanged until the end of next May.
Mr. Meril Mendis, Deputy Director of the Department of Meteorology, points out that the main reason for these extremely hot conditions is the weak nature of the wind flow coinciding with the inter-monsoon period.
He requests the public in the relevant areas to be extremely vigilant as many parts of the country are already experiencing intense heat, and in some places, the heat felt by the human body is at a 'cautionary' risk level.
The Department of Meteorology states that it is very important to frequently drink adequate water and spend time resting in shaded areas as much as possible to protect oneself from this situation.
Additionally, they advise to be more careful with young children, the elderly, and sick individuals during these days. Furthermore, the relevant announcement also states to limit strenuous activities and to use light-colored or white, loose-fitting clothing that provides comfort to the body.
