The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CEYPETCO) states that henceforth, the issuance of fuel from all fuel stations island-wide will be limited only to the National Fuel Pass, also known as the QR code system, and that the full intervention of the Sri Lanka Police will be obtained for this purpose. The Chairman of the Corporation, D.
J. Rajakaruna, officially announced this today (15) afternoon, joining a special media briefing. The Chairman emphasized that since the fuel orders required for Sri Lanka are currently being received without any hindrance, there will be no fuel shortage in the country until the end of next month. This new system will be strictly implemented from today, and since each consumer's weekly fuel quota has been specifically allocated at the respective filling stations, the facility to obtain it at any time of the day has now been provided. Accordingly, he also pointed out that consumers will no longer need to wait in long queues to obtain fuel.
Any technical glitches that arose at filling stations and on the website this morning have now been completely rectified, and accordingly, it is possible to check the code and issue fuel from any filling station on the island. No individual will have the need to obtain fuel outside the QR system, and individuals attempting to obtain fuel by unnecessarily waiting in queues will henceforth lose that opportunity with the intervention of the police.
The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation also states that it is closely monitoring fuel station owners. Authorities warn that if any discrepancy or irregularity is observed between the quantity of fuel stocks issued to filling stations and the amounts sold through the QR code, strict legal action will be taken against the respective filling station owners, and their dealership licenses will even be completely revoked.
Meanwhile, steps have been taken to provide the necessary fuel for passenger transport buses through the depots of the Sri Lanka Transport Board, as before. The distance covered by these buses and their routes will be properly calculated, and their fuel quota is expected to be revised accordingly in the short term. Concurrently, the Chairman further stated that all necessary arrangements have been made to systematically supply the required fuel stocks for the fishing industry and agricultural activities without any hindrance.
