The younger brother of Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala has died in a road accident. This accident occurred yesterday (15) morning in the Mahagalkadawala area on the Padeniya - Anuradhapura main road, according to Galgamuwa Police.




The person who unfortunately passed away in this manner is Mr. Piyasena Dissanayake, a 60-year-old resident of Mahailuppallama, Anuradhapura. It is also stated that he was a retired sergeant who served in the Sri Lanka Army.

According to police information, Mr. Piyasena had arrived the previous day to attend a ceremony at the home of another one of his brothers in the Galgamuwa area. It is reported that the Minister also attended the event. After the ceremony, yesterday morning, he was traveling back to his home on his motorcycle when he met with this accident.




The motorcycle he was riding collided with the rear of a lorry parked on the side of the road in the Mahagalkadawala area. The accident site is a curved area, and police officers state that upon colliding with the lorry, he was thrown off and also hit an iron fence constructed for road safety.

Mr. Piyasena, who sustained serious injuries due to the accident, passed away while receiving treatment after being admitted to Galgamuwa Hospital. His post-mortem examination and inquest into the sudden death were scheduled to be conducted yesterday at Galgamuwa Hospital.



Under the instructions of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police for the North Western Province, Mr. Ajith Rohana, a team of officers from the Traffic Division of Galgamuwa Police is conducting further investigations into this road accident.
