The Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) has decided to withdraw from the 'Arogya' project, implemented by the Ministry of Health, starting today (02).

The Assistant Secretary of the Association, Dr. Hansamal Weerasuriya, stated that they are resorting to this professional action due to the lack of a positive response from the government to their demands. The Government Medical Officers' Association also states that they are currently taking 7 other professional actions.

Further commenting on this project, Dr. Hansamal Weerasuriya said that he had not received any information regarding the objective of the 'Arogya' project or the true situation behind it. The doctor pointed out that it is also unclear whether a feasibility study has been conducted for this project, or with whose permission and under the initiative of which party it is being implemented.

He also stated that it is problematic to initiate duplicate work in areas without issues, while numerous massive problems exist within the country's health service. Dr. Hansamal Weerasuriya emphasized that he has a reasonable suspicion that this is a project being implemented with a political agenda.

He also mentioned that this indicates an attempt to gain benefits from problem-free sectors without resolving the existing issues of doctors and the entire health service. Dr. Hansamal Weerasuriya finally stated that the Central Committee of the Government Medical Officers' Association decided not to participate in such a project, which is unclear in many aspects and has a political facade.
