Sri Lanka's official reserve assets exceed the $7 billion mark for the first time since 2020.

According to the latest data reports released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the country's official reserve assets have achieved significant growth after several years. Accordingly, for the first time since August 2020, the total value of Sri Lanka's official reserve assets has successfully exceeded the US$7 billion mark.




This reserve amount, which was recorded as US$6,832 million by the end of January 2026, has grown by 6.6 percent by February. Concurrently, the Central Bank confirms that the total value of official reserve assets increased to US$7,284 million by the end of February. However, authorities have further indicated that this total reserve value also includes financial facilities received under the currency swap agreement with the People's Bank of China.

The foreign exchange reserve, considered the main component of these official reserve assets, also showed a clear growth during February, from a level of US$6,687 million to US$7,057 million. In addition, the value of gold reserves held by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka has rapidly increased from the previous value of US$109 million to US$200 million. Data reports confirm this as a remarkable percentage growth of 83.4 percent.
