Sisters arrested for preparing to kill a manager to avenge the murder of Lawyer Mallawarachchi

Two sisters from the same family, who were directly involved in a plan to assassinate the brother-in-law of underworld gang leader Karandeniye Sudda, were arrested by the Peliyagoda Crimes Division on the 4th of last month. Police investigations have revealed that these two suspects acted in connection with this assassination plot, which was orchestrated by the underworld gang of organized criminal Kanjipani Imran.

Police say that a motive for revenge is behind this assassination plot. As a response to the shooting and killing of the lawyer who appeared for the court cases of underworld leader 'Loku Pattee', who is currently imprisoned, and his wife in the Akuregoda area, this contract was given to Kanjipani Imran's gang at Loku Pattee's request to assassinate Karandeniye Sudda's brother-in-law.

However, this underworld gang had mistakenly identified a manager of a financial institution in the Makola area as their target. Accordingly, on February 25th and 26th, two hired assassins were deployed to shoot the said financial institution manager while he was traveling in his Wagon R type car at the Makola junction, but their attempts were thwarted on both occasions. The police point out that if the shooting had been successful, an innocent person with no connection to this underworld conflict could have lost his life.

The two suspect sisters related to this incident were taken into police custody while they were inside the financial institution in Makola where the aforementioned innocent manager works, spying and making video recordings. It has been revealed that they came there to spy because they had received information that Karandeniye Sudda's real brother-in-law frequently visits this financial institution.

During interrogations of the suspects, it was confirmed that they have connections with Kanjipani Imran's drug network, and they agreed to assist in this assassination plot on the promise of receiving drugs. These two suspects were directed by 'Sanju', a close associate of Kanjipani Imran, who is hiding in Dubai, acting on Imran's instructions. The arrested elder sister had previously worked in Dubai for 4 years, where she met Sanju and later returned to Sri Lanka to join this drug trafficking operation. At the time of her arrest, the police also found 16 grams of heroin in her travel bag.

The arrested elder sister has currently been remanded for further questioning under detention orders, while her younger sister has been remanded after being produced before the court. A team of officers, including Chief Police Inspector Linton Silva, under the instructions of Deputy Inspector General of Police Kalinga Jayasinghe, in charge of the North of the Western Province, and the guidance of Mr. A. Dharmaratne, Director of the Peliyagoda Crimes Division, are conducting further investigations into this incident.
