Commissioner General of Motor Traffic, Mr. Kamal Amarasinghe, has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department. This arrest was made following an extensive investigation into a serious irregularity alleged to have occurred during the vehicle registration process.
The main accusation against him is directly aiding and abetting the illegal alteration of a cab's chassis number and its fraudulent registration.In connection with this incident, a team of officers from the Financial Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department took the suspect into custody yesterday (27). Arrangements have been made to present the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic, who was taken into custody by the Criminal Investigation Department, to the court today (28) for further legal action.
Mr. Kamal Amarasinghe, who served as the Secretary to the Ministry of Roads and Transport of the North Western Provincial Council, had assumed duties as the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic in 2025.
