Iran reports that American and Israeli airstrikes targeted a part of the country's state television headquarters in Tehran, the capital of Iran, on Sunday evening. Press TV, a state-owned media outlet, confirmed that American and Israeli warplanes launched attacks on the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) headquarters.
Additionally, the media outlet further states that residential areas in the capital were also targeted in the attacks. In light of this situation, the Iranian state news agency (IRNA) reported that massive explosions were heard from the eastern, southeastern, and central areas of Tehran. According to foreign media reports, these combined airstrikes resulted in a series of widespread explosions and smoke visible in the Tehran sky. However, no official information or independent confirmation regarding casualties from these attacks or the full extent of damage to the media complex has been released yet.
This latest series of attacks comes against a backdrop of intensely escalating conflicts between the two sides. Last Saturday, a powerful joint attack by the United States and Israel on Iranian leadership and strategic locations resulted in the deaths of several high-ranking Iranian leaders, including Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In strong response, the Tehran regime launched a series of drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, American assets, and several Gulf regional countries.
In June last year, Tel Aviv and the Washington administration had previously launched a similar series of attacks on Iran. That conflict, which ended after a ceasefire was declared, reportedly escalated into a 12-day war.
