According to the latest information reported by international media on March 28, 2026, the armed organization named 'Islamic Resistance in Iraq' has claimed to have launched a series of suicide drone attacks on several airbases and an airport located in Jordan. This coalition of Iran-backed Shia armed groups announced through their affiliated media networks that they have launched at least six separate attacks within less than an hour against targets in Jordan, including the 'Prince Hussein' airbase.

However, Jordanian authorities, the United States military, or other coalition forces have not yet officially confirmed the actual impact, damage, or casualties resulting from these drone attacks. Although militia-friendly Telegram channels like 'Sabereen News' widely publicized these attacks, war analysts point out that Jordan has previously succeeded in destroying similar drone attacks in the air on numerous occasions.

'Islamic Resistance in Iraq' is not a single organization, but a broad network composed of several Iran-backed Iraqi Shia militia groups, such as Kataib Hezbollah. This organization, which gained prominence in late 2023, states that it launches its operations with the aim of supporting the Gaza Strip and Palestine, and to counter the existing US and Israeli influence in the region. It has been observed that they often use low-cost Shahed-type suicide drones and rocket attacks for these operations.

Looking at the attack history of this network of armed groups, the drone attack on 'Tower 22', an American military base located in the northeastern region of Jordan in January 2024, stands out, resulting in the deaths of three American soldiers and injuries to approximately 47 others. As of the current year 2026, this crisis has further escalated, and media reports indicate that in response to the assassination of Iranian leaders and US and Israeli activities, they have launched over twenty attacks within a short period of 24 hours.

Jordan is a key American ally in the region, hosting between 2,500 and 3,000 United States troops at several bases, including Muwaffaq Salti Air Base. Due to this, Jordan has faced severe internal and external pressure, and with the aim of alleviating this situation, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan recently issued a joint statement urging Iraq to take swift measures to control these proxy armed groups operating within its territory.
