Mirihana Police have arrested a suspect in connection with an incident where two lawyers, who appeared for a court case at the Nugegoda Magistrate's Court, were threatened with death, and their vehicle was attacked and damaged. The Police Media Division reports that a team of Mirihana Police officers arrested the suspect this morning (01) in the Madampé, Kajulandawatta area.Mirihana Police had received a complaint that on January 30, a group of individuals blocked the road near the Nugegoda Gramasabha Junction and committed this crime while the lawyers were leaving after completing their court proceedings. The police state that the group surrounded the vehicle carrying the lawyers, threatened them with death, attacked the vehicle, and committed criminal intimidation and mischief. Following the reporting of this incident, three police teams, including Mirihana Police, were deployed for investigations. As a result of the investigations, this 43-year-old suspect, a resident of the Madampé area, has been arrested. He has been arrested on charges of obstructing the road, criminal intimidation, committing mischief, and being a member of an unlawful assembly. The police state that the arrested suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate's Court today (01) for an identification parade. Since there are more suspects involved in this crime who obstructed the legal duties of the lawyers, three police teams, including Mirihana Police, are conducting further extensive investigations to immediately arrest and produce all of them before the court.
Those who assaulted the law enforcement officers of the Rainbow trafficking on the road were arrested.
