An investigation has been launched into an alleged incident where a woman was taken to a hotel room in the Warakapola area with the intention of obtaining sexual bribes, claiming assistance to expedite the conclusion of a case pending before the Kegalle High Court. This investigation is being conducted against a Sub-Inspector of Police attached to the Warakapola Police, and a team of officers from the Kegalle Divisional Criminal Investigation Division is carrying out these investigations based on a complaint made by the woman on the 5th of last month.




The police state that a case regarding an alleged sexual assault on the complainant woman's daughter in 2021 is currently being heard before the Kegalle High Court, and the accused Sub-Inspector of Police is also acting as a witness in that case. It is reported that this officer, having inquired about her willingness to expedite the conclusion of the said case, requested the woman to come alone and meet him, claiming it was to prepare the necessary documents for the case.

A senior police officer confirmed that the suspect Sub-Inspector, after obtaining the woman's mobile phone number, repeatedly called her and strongly pressured her to come and meet him alone. Faced with these pressures, the woman acted strategically, arriving in Warakapola town with a cousin in a van, and then went to meet the suspect officer, pretending that she had arrived alone by bus.




The Sub-Inspector, who had arrived on a motorcycle, requested her to get on the motorcycle. Although the woman initially refused, she eventually agreed due to his persistent requests. He then took her to a hotel, while the woman's cousin secretly followed them in the van. Police sources state that upon arriving at the hotel, the officer invited her to a hotel room, saying, "Your husband isn't here, I'll give you a good time."

The police state that at that moment, the woman's cousin, who had followed them in the van, immediately arrived at the scene, scolded the Sub-Inspector, and chased him away. Following the incident, the Sub-Inspector fled on his motorcycle, and the woman subsequently lodged a complaint with the police. The Kegalle Divisional Criminal Investigation Division is conducting further investigations into this incident.
