The membership of the Muslim Congress female councillor who voted in favor of the Colombo Municipal Council's budget has been abolished.

A gazette notification has been issued by Ms. Piyumi Artigala, the Returning Officer of the Colombo Municipal Council, stating that the membership of Ms. Mohamed Buhari Fathima Sohara, who represented the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress in the Colombo Municipal Council, has been annulled. This gazette was issued because she voted in favor of the National People's Power during the second vote held to pass the Colombo Municipal Council budget.

The gazette notification further states that since Ms. Sohara Buhari's membership in the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress party has been terminated, she has relinquished her council membership in that council.

Disciplinary action had been taken against her by Mr. Nizam Kariyappar, Secretary of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress party, President's Counsel and Member of Parliament, for acting contrary to the instructions given by the party during the budget vote.
