The Colombo Municipal Council has decided to completely abolish all fees hitherto charged for the cremation and burial of dead bodies within its jurisdiction.
Accordingly, the Colombo Municipal Council announces that the fee of ten thousand rupees (10,000) hitherto charged for cremation services, as well as the fee of seven thousand five hundred rupees (7,500) charged for the burial of Islamic religious bodies, have been abolished with immediate effect.
This decision was presented through a series of budget proposals this time, and was officially announced by Colombo Mayor Ms. Vrai Kali Balthazar at the General Assembly meeting held on the 10th.
With this decision, residents within the jurisdiction of the Colombo Municipal Council will henceforth have the opportunity to avail themselves of cremation and burial facilities for dead bodies free of charge.
