South Kalutara Police are investigating an incident where a person, who arrived around 2:30 AM the day before yesterday (04) to see a follower of Kudu Salindu – who had been assaulted at Kalutara Prison and was receiving inpatient treatment at Kalutara Nagoda Teaching Hospital – allegedly threatened a hospital security officer by showing a pistol.




The officer who was on security duty at the doorway near the ward faced this incident while a detainee, said to be a follower of Kudu Salindu, who had been assaulted inside the prison on January 28th, was receiving treatment at the hospital under the protection of prison officers.

“While I was on duty, a person who arrived on an electric motorcycle stated that his relative was receiving treatment at the hospital and that he had come to see him because he learned he was in critical condition, and asked me to open the door. When I refused that request, he showed me a pistol and threatened me. Due to the fear I felt, I didn't tell anyone,” he had stated to the police.




The police were informed about this the day before yesterday, on the 4th, at 3:00 PM, and his immediate supervising officer in the security division stated that he was unaware of it.

Accordingly, the police state that a suspicion has arisen regarding this complaint. Under the instructions of Deputy Inspector General of Police Padmini Weerasuriya, in charge of the Kalutara Division, and Senior Superintendent of Police Udayakumara, in charge of the Kalutara Division, officers including Kalutara Headquarters Chief Inspector Nalaka Gunasekara and OIC of the Criminal Investigation Division Chief Inspector Dinesh Nishantha de Silva are conducting further investigations into this matter.
