A team of officers from the Kalutara North Police Life Saving Unit has successfully rescued a young Danish boy who was suddenly caught in a rip current and swept away while bathing in the Waskaduwa sea. The twelve-year-old boy, named Mortensen Arthur, who was visiting Sri Lanka with his parents, was saved due to their swift action.

This foreign tourist family was staying at a famous hotel in the Waskaduwa area. Last 16th, in the afternoon, when they went to the sea to enjoy with their father and brother, they faced this unexpected incident. Both children were suddenly caught by a powerful wave and swept out to sea, and one of the children was swept back towards the shore with the wave.

However, the other child was rapidly pulled about 300 meters away from the shore into the sea. Immediately observing this dangerous situation, the three life-saving officers, Constables Madusanka, Chathuranga, and Kumarasinghe, immediately jumped into the sea and, with great effort, managed to safely rescue the child.
