Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya today (19) revealed in Parliament information regarding the salaries and allowances currently paid to Members of Parliament. The Prime Minister presented these details in response to a question raised by Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Chaminda Wijesiri.
According to the data provided by the Prime Minister, the details of the monthly basic salary and allowances received by a Member of Parliament are as follows:
* Monthly Basic Salary: Rs. 54,285. * Entertainment Allowance: Rs. 1,000. * Transport Allowance: Rs. 15,000. * Telephone Allowance: Rs. 50,000. * Office Allowance: Rs. 100,000.
Meanwhile, MPs are also entitled to a driver's allowance of Rs. 3,500. However, the Prime Minister further emphasized that this allowance is not paid to MPs who have obtained a driver through the Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs.
Regarding the fuel allowance, the Prime Minister stated that it is calculated based on the distance from the district represented by each MP to Parliament. Specifically, she said that for National List MPs, this allowance is paid for 419.76 liters of diesel, according to the market price prevailing on the first day of each month.
The Prime Minister also provided details regarding the daily allowances paid for the participation of MPs in parliamentary affairs. These are noted as follows:
* Participation in Parliamentary sittings – Rs. 2,500 (per day) * Participation in Committee meetings (on days when Parliament sittings are held) – Rs. 2,500 (per day) * Participation in Committee meetings (on days when Parliament sittings are not held) – Rs. 2,500 (per day)
