Husband chopped his wife's illicit lover with an axe after giving him alcohol and tricking him

Malwathu and Hiripitiya Police state that a forty-year-old married man was hacked to death with an axe at a house in Pussellawatta, Kaluwila, Radawana area, the night before last (25th). The deceased has been identified as Nilantha Wijesuriya (40), a married man residing in Aluthgama Gammana area, who died after being admitted to Gampaha Base Hospital with serious injuries.

Police reveal that the deceased had an illicit affair with the suspect's wife, and after being caught red-handed, the suspect subtly intoxicated and deceived the victim before committing this murder. In connection with this incident, a forty-five-year-old man, who is the husband of the woman who had a friendship with the deceased, has been arrested by the police.

Police investigations and post-mortem examinations have revealed that when the suspect husband, who had gone to work in another area, returned home on the day of the incident, the deceased was also present in the house. Subsequently, the two had consumed alcohol together, and later, while they were asleep, the murder was committed by hacking with an axe.

The post-mortem examination of the deceased was scheduled to be held yesterday (26th) at Gampaha Hospital.
