
The former OIC of the Computer Crime Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department today (19) expressed his profound regret before the Supreme Court regarding the arrest of comedian Ms. Natasha Edirisooriya using the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) Act. The arrest was made on charges that she had made a statement insulting Buddhism.
Here, an official letter confirming the former OIC's expression of regret was also officially submitted by the government attorney to the Supreme Court bench.
Furthermore, the government attorney also informed the court that the Inspector General of Police has decided to introduce a special set of guidelines aimed at preventing future illegal and arbitrary actions during the process of arresting suspects under the relevant act.
After considering these submissions and agreements, the Supreme Court ordered the complete termination of the hearings of the fundamental rights petition filed against the incident.
