It is reported that the prices of chicken and eggs have significantly increased with the rise in foreign tourist arrivals to watch the T20 cricket tournament held in Sri Lanka.

Chicken producers indicate that with the growth in tourist arrivals, the demand for eggs and chicken has rapidly increased across the entire hotel sector, including tourist hotels. They further state that prices have had to be raised in response to this escalating demand.

Currently, the price of a kilo of chicken with skin, which was previously between Rs. 800 and Rs. 900, has risen to Rs. 1,100. Similarly, the price of an egg has increased to between Rs. 36 and Rs. 37, while a kilo of boneless chicken is now priced at Rs. 1,400. Chicken producers further note that the number of tourists who arrived in the country this month has also significantly increased.

However, Mr. Ajith H. Gunasekara, President of the Sri Lanka Animal Producers' Association, stated that chicken prices are expected to decrease again in the coming days.
