A group of relatives of the defendants visited the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo yesterday (23) to discuss matters including the verdict related to the assassination of Member of Parliament Amarakirthi Athukorala and his security officer. There, the relatives of the defendants also handed over a memorandum to the Presidential Secretariat regarding the incident.

After handing over the memorandum, they also held a discussion with a Presidential Director General.

After the discussion, the group of relatives, speaking to the media, stated that they are working to file an appeal in the Supreme Court against the verdict in the assassination of Member of Parliament Amarakirthi Athukorala and his security officer. The relatives of the defendants further stated:

“We came today to meet the President and hand over a letter explaining the injustice done to us. Also, we will file an appeal regarding our case. We truly expect a fair verdict from a five-member court. We also told the President to do justice. We are very helpless at this moment. There are many mothers with children. Our only hope is to file an appeal and get these 12 people out.” Email ThisBlogThis!Share to XShare to Facebook
