The West Indies team managed to record a massive 107-run victory by defeating the Zimbabwe team in the fourth Super 8 round match of the T20 World Cup Cricket tournament held at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday. Invited to bat first by the Zimbabwe captain who won the toss, the West Indies created a massive scoreboard of 254 runs for 6 wickets at the end of the allotted 20 overs.

Chasing a winning target of 255 runs, the Zimbabwe team could only manage to score 147 runs, getting all out in 17.4 overs.

Shimron Hetmyer, who scored a rapid half-century in 19 balls, won the Man of the Match award. Several unique cricket records were broken in this match, with 31 sixes being recorded throughout the game, which was a notable event. This is the highest number of sixes recorded in a T20 World Cup match, breaking the previous record of 30 sixes scored in a match between Ireland and the Netherlands in Sylhet in 2014.

Here, Shimron Hetmyer, who scored a half-century in 19 balls, registered the record for the fastest half-century by a West Indies player in T20 World Cup history to his name. Previously, Chris Gayle had scored a half-century in 23 balls against Australia in Colombo in 2012, and Hetmyer himself had scored a half-century in 22 balls against Scotland at Eden Gardens in this very tournament. Furthermore, with the 7 sixes hit by Hetmyer in this match, his total number of sixes in this tournament increased to 17, equaling Nicholas Pooran's record for the most sixes in the 2024 tournament.

Another unique record in the match was the 44-run partnership for the 10th wicket between Bradley Evans and Richard Ngarava of the Zimbabwe team in 19 balls. This is the highest partnership for the last wicket in World Cup history, breaking the record of 37 runs unbeaten set by Gudakesh Motie and Sherfane Rutherford against New Zealand in 2024. Additionally, although Zimbabwe's opening batsman Brian Bennett was dismissed for 5 runs, his unbeaten 180 runs accumulated over the previous 4 matches set a new record for the most runs scored unbeaten by a player in a tournament. Previously, Tom Cooper of the Netherlands held this record with 111 runs unbeaten in 2014.

During Hetmyer's explosive innings, two dropped catches by Tashinga Musekiwa proved to be a huge advantage for the West Indies. Both opportunities, when Hetmyer was on 9 runs off Blessing Muzarabani's bowling and on 70 runs off Brad Evans' bowling, were dropped. He also hit a massive 108-meter six off Sikandar Raza's bowling, and Rovman Powell also hit a 106-meter six off Dion Myers' bowling, sending the ball to the second tier of the Wankhede stadium.

In the 16th over of the match, a powerful shot by Rovman Powell hit bowler Sikandar Raza's left arm, causing him severe pain, and the match had to be briefly stopped. Powell immediately went to him, hugged him, and kissed his forehead, displaying excellent sportsmanship. In bowling, Akeal Hosein of the West Indies team notably bowled a double wicket maiden over, where he dismissed Brian Bennett with the first ball and Ryan Burl, who was yet to score, with the fourth ball, thereby hindering Zimbabwe's innings.
