A fake email mentioning Shani's name

The Police Media Division has revealed that an email, created by fraudulently using the name and designation of the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), is currently circulating among the public. It has been observed that an individual or a group is disseminating these fake messages, specifically using the name and official designation "Shani Abesekara, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID)", as well as phrases like "NationWide Could, Protection 24/7".

Issuing a statement regarding this incident, the Criminal Investigation Department emphasizes that the said email messages were not sent by their department under any circumstances. According to investigations conducted so far, it has been confirmed that these fraudulent messages were sent using the email addresses noucinatacha20@gmail.com and police.cid.lk@gmail.com.

The police suspect that this fraudulent act is being carried out with the aim of deceiving the public to defraud money or obtain confidential personal information. The Criminal Investigation Department has already launched a special investigation to uncover information about the individuals or groups sending these fake messages and to take legal action against them.

Therefore, the police strongly advise the public not to trust the content of messages received through the aforementioned suspicious email addresses, and to refrain from responding to them or providing their personal information.
