4 arrested, including the gunman, in the murder of the Kalutara Municipal Council SJB candidate

The Police Special Task Force's Organized Crime Prevention Unit states that four individuals, including the gunman who attempted to shoot and kill Samagi Jana Balawegaya candidate Bandula Prasanna of the Kalutara Municipal Council, and a woman who allegedly aided him, have been arrested. Police state that the gunman was arrested while hiding in the Balangoda area.

Police say that the 24-year-old suspect gunman, a resident of Nagoda, Kalutara, is the same person who acted as the gunman in the incident where an attempt was made to shoot and kill a prison inmate at Kalutara Nagoda Hospital on December 31, 2025, and in the incident where the owner of a hotel in the police division was shot and killed on January 9, 2026.

Mr. Tennakoon Arachchige Bandula Prasanna, residing at 89/2 Nagoda, Hataramanhandiya, Kalutara, was shot and wounded by an unknown person on the night of the 7th and on May 4th of last year, and was hospitalized on that day. The two suspects arrested for aiding and abetting are residents of the Kalutara area, aged 23-24, and the female suspect is a 23-year-old resident of the Bolossagama area. The gunman, along with the other suspects and the female suspect, have been handed over to the Kalutara District Crime Division for further investigations.
