Aluthgama Police state that a German national, who was staying and relaxing at a star-class tourist hotel in Kaluwamodara, Aluthgama, went for a swim in the sea and drowned. The deceased is a retired foreign national named Hunk Fred Hiner (74), who was a resident of Trivan Bolland, Germany, and had come to Aluthgama for a short vacation.
This foreign national had arrived in the country with his wife on a tourist visa on January 21st. At that time, foreigners and Sri Lankans who were on the beach collectively pulled the drowned German national out of the water, but he had died by the time he was admitted to Beruwala Hospital. Beruwala Inquirer into Sudden Deaths, Mr. Reginald Hettiarachchi, arrived at Beruwala Hospital with Aluthgama Police officers, the deceased foreigner's wife, and several hotel staff members. After conducting a preliminary inquiry into the body, the inquirer ordered the body to be placed in the mortuary of Nagoda Hospital, Kalutara, for a post-mortem examination until the German Embassy in Sri Lanka is informed.
