The Gampaha High Court has ordered the postponement of the verdict in the case related to the killing of former Member of Parliament Amarakirthi Athukorala and his security officer, which was scheduled to be announced today (January 14) at the Gampaha High Court, until February 11.
This case, filed by the Attorney General against 41 defendants, was heard for a long time before a three-judge bench comprising High Court Judges Sahan Mapa Bandara, Rashmi Singappuli, and Rasantha Godawela.
This incident was reported on May 09, 2022, on or around the day of the peaceful protest at Galle Face. The Attorney General had filed a case regarding the assault and killing of Amarakirthi Athukorala, who was then the Member of Parliament for Polonnaruwa District, and his security officer Jayantha Gunawardena, in Nittambuwa town.
