Doctors at Marawila Base Hospital have surgically removed two glass bottles found inside the uterus of a woman who was admitted to the hospital complaining of severe bleeding. This 35-year-old woman, a resident of Nattandiya area, was hospitalized for treatment on the 9th of last month.
The woman concerned has stated to the doctors that she faced this incident on the first of last January, during a party held at the house of the owner of the institution where she works. She further stated that she had consumed excessive alcohol at that time and that two individuals present there had raped her.
During a scan examination conducted after the patient was hospitalized, doctors observed that there were two bottles inside her abdomen. Accordingly, the medical team at Marawila Hospital immediately acted and performed a surgery to remove those bottles.
Marawila Police, who commenced investigations into the incident, have arrested two individuals residing in Pilakatumulla, Nattandiya area, who allegedly raped the woman, and a woman who allegedly aided and abetted it. Those arrested are the owner of the institution where the victim woman worked and two of its employees.
Police investigations have further revealed that the hospitalized woman and the suspects had excessively consumed alcohol and drugs at the party held on the day the crime occurred. After the three arrested suspects were produced before the Marawila Magistrate's Court, they have been ordered to be remanded until the 13th of next month.
