Information has been revealed that the incident of shooting and killing the owner of the 'Sea Shark' tourist hotel located on Dehiwala Marine Drive on the night of the 9th was carried out under the direct guidance of Badowita Asanka, an organized criminal operating from abroad. The victim of this shooting, which occurred around 9:00 PM that night, is D.A., a 55-year-old resident of Dehiwala.
Sanath, also known as 'Sana Mama'. While the deceased was drinking alcohol with another person inside the hotel, gunmen entered under the guise of coming to drink beer, shot him in the head and chest, and fled. He was admitted to Kalubowila Hospital with serious injuries and later died.Although the police stated that the murdered hotel owner had no prior life threats, information has been received that he was a close associate of 'Chuuwa Samantha', who is considered a large-scale drug trafficker in the Dehiwala and Mount Lavinia areas. The long-standing conflict between Badowita Asanka's faction and the faction of drug traffickers Kos Malli, Chuuwa Samantha, and Bodhiya Watte Avishka is suspected to be the immediate cause of this murder. Police sources indicate that due to the severe dispute between these two underworld gangs, 13 individuals from both sides have lost their lives so far.
It has been revealed that 'Sana Mama', who was murdered, had previously been involved in activities such as extortion, associating with former politicians of the Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipal Council, and later established connections with underworld member Chuuwa Samantha. Although the Municipal Council had granted him the authority to control the parking lot in front of the Dehiwala Zoo, which was confiscated from the notorious drug trafficker Wele Suda, there are also reports that a portion of the income from it was given to Wele Suda.
Police state that at the time the gunmen, who arrived on a scooter-type motorcycle, committed this crime, the deceased's child was playing on a swing nearby, and the absence of any security camera system (CCTV) inside the hotel where the crime occurred has posed a challenge to the investigations. However, the police have now launched a wide-ranging investigation to identify the motorcycle used by the gunmen and arrest the suspects using security camera footage from the surrounding areas.
