The Department of Immigration and Emigration has announced that the first Automated Border Control (ABC) e-gates at the arrival terminal of Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) will be officially opened today (28).
Chief Immigration and Emigration Officer Mr. Jude Fernando stated that four e-gates are scheduled to be operational from today.
This project is an effort implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation, the Government of Japan, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
Mr. Jude Fernando further emphasized that the new e-gates will significantly enhance the operational efficiency of the airport.
This new initiative is being implemented as part of a project carried out by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) under Japanese funding. The main objective of this project is to strengthen border management capacities, especially in response to infectious disease situations in Southwest Asia.
