Keppetipola Police state that the body of a young man who went missing in a landslide caused by Cyclone Ditwa was found after two months.
The body was found by a group of Road Development Authority employees who were clearing soil in the Keppetipola Gawarammana area where earth mounds had collapsed. The deceased has been identified as R.M. Asitha Kosala, a 30-year-old resident of Mirahawatta Werallawatta.
Among the landslides that occurred with Cyclone Ditwa, a lorry driver was buried under soil in a renewed landslide at the Keppetipola Gawarammana area while clearing previously landslide-affected soil on November 27th.
Due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions, soil was cleared at the site only to allow vehicle movement, and the body of the missing person could not be found.
However, due to the current favorable weather conditions, the Road Development Authority is currently clearing soil that has fallen onto the Welimada - Nuwara Eliya road from Keppetipola to Balungala at various points. It was while clearing soil in the Gawarammana area in this manner that the body, suspected to be that of the individual, was found.
Keppetipola Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
