Ridgeway nurse's death suspicious: Investigations into son's complaint

A 42-year-old nurse named Nishanthi Kumari Abeyasinghe, residing in the Meda Mahanuwara area of Kandy, who was serving at Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children in Colombo, mysteriously sustained burn injuries and passed away at Ragama Teaching Hospital on the evening of the day before yesterday (24). Kadawatha Police state that she was receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit at the time of her death.

A comprehensive investigation into this death has been launched following a complaint made to the Kadawatha Police by the deceased nurse's son, stating that his mother's death was suspicious. He informed the police that his mother was a healthy person and, to his knowledge, had no known illnesses.

Based on information provided by his sister, the son told the police that when he went to Ragama Teaching Hospital in North Colombo, his mother was unable to speak and was receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit with burn injuries. He further stated that his mother was temporarily residing in the Borella area for work.
