Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva announced that India has agreed to play an additional T20 International cricket series during their tour of Sri Lanka in August, with the aim of supporting relief and rehabilitation efforts for those affected by Cyclone Ditwa.
Mr. Silva further stated that these additional T20 matches are scheduled to be held when the Indian national cricket team tours Sri Lanka later this year for their ICC World Test Championship series.
He also explained that this decision was taken as another step in India's efforts to support Sri Lanka after Cyclone Ditwa caused extensive damage to several parts of the island.
Expressing his gratitude for India's support, the Sri Lanka Cricket President stated that these additional matches, scheduled for August, are expected to significantly contribute to generating much-needed financial aid and international attention for relief and rebuilding efforts in the country.
Cyclone Ditwa affected hundreds of thousands of people across Sri Lanka, causing severe floods and landslides, and inflicting extensive damage to homes, infrastructure, and livelihoods.
With the aim of providing relief to those affected by Cyclone Ditwa, Sri Lanka Cricket has already implemented several programs, including exploring international playing venues and collaborating with foreign cricket boards for fundraising activities.
Shammi Silva further emphasized that the entire revenue generated from the upcoming T20 International series against Pakistan will be donated for flood relief efforts.
