Highest foreign employment remittances of 8076 million US dollars in the past year 2025.

The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) announces that the highest amount of migrant remittances in Sri Lanka's 40-year history of foreign employment has been received in 2025. During this period, an enormous amount of remittances, totaling US$ 8.07 billion, has been received by the country.

The Bureau further states that during the period from January to December last year, Sri Lanka received US$ 8076 million (US$ 8.07 billion) from migrant workers. This amounts to LKR 2432 billion in local currency. This shows a significant increase of 22.8 percent compared to the US$ 6575 million in remittances received by the country in 2024.

Furthermore, the highest amount of migrant remittances recorded for a single month was in December last year, with that value being US$ 879.1 million.

It is stated that policy decisions taken by the current government and programs implemented by the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment to send quality trained workers abroad have contributed to this record growth. As a result, over 310,000 Sri Lankans departed for foreign employment last year.
