With the utilization of 20 new jeeps donated to the Sri Lanka Army by Indian Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi, the Sri Lanka Army has been able to save 1.5 million rupees per month.
This batch of jeeps was officially presented to the Sri Lanka Army by the Indian Army Chief during his visit to the country, as a symbol of the bilateral relationship between the two Army Chiefs.
Previously, the Army had to spend 1.5 million rupees (15 lakhs) monthly for vehicles rented from the private sector for administrative and field duties. With the introduction of these new jeeps into service, steps have been taken to remove those rented vehicles, which will save the government over 18 million rupees annually. (Dilanka Gunathilaka)
