A large blue rock has emerged from a landslide near the Sri Muththumari Amman Kovil in the Galaha, Gallanthenna area of Kandy. The Galaha Police state that steps have been taken to deploy special police security to the site due to suspicions that it might be a gemstone.

It is suspected that this rock was pushed from the upper part to the lower part due to a landslide caused by Cyclone Ditwa.

This rock, weighing approximately one ton, was inspected by a team of officials from the National Gem and Jewellery Authority this afternoon (19).

Due to rumors spreading that some light was emanating from the site, a large crowd gathered to see it, prompting the OIC of Galaha Police to take steps to deploy police security to the location.

Officials from the National Gem and Jewellery Authority stated that this could be a special type of rock found in a cluster, and it cannot be confirmed at this moment whether it is definitely a gemstone.

The police further state that officials from the National Gem and Jewellery Authority are scheduled to re-examine the site within a few days, and special police security will continue until a definitive conclusion is reached regarding this rock.
