requesting a proper investigation into the five deaths caused by the use of Ondansetron Injections supplied by Maan Pharmaceutical Ltd (MAAN PHARMACEOTICAL LTD) of India and Human Immunoglobulin injections supplied by Ichor Biologics Pvt-Ltd (ICHOR BIALOGICS PVT-LTD) of India to the Medical Supplies Division of the Ministry of Health, and to take legal action against the culprits.

Hewage Sudath Janaka Fernando has lodged a written complaint with the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department. In his complaint, he stated that in addition to the aforementioned deaths caused by the use of these injections in government hospitals, a large number of other people have suffered various allergic reactions. He further requested that appropriate action be taken against the officials of the Ministry of Health who assisted and abetted the import of these drugs, claiming they were of proper standard. The medical supplies, manufactured by an Indian company and imported by a local company, were supplied to the Medical Supplies Division.

He informed the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department that it is clear that two patients died and several others developed various complications at the Colombo IDH Hospital due to Ondansetron injection poisoning, and that these injections were used despite their use having been suspended.

Mr. Sudath Janaka Fernando also stated in his complaint that there is a readiness to reuse the Ondansetron injection, which was withdrawn from use after the said deaths occurred and complications were reported, based on a report submitted by an Indian company.
