Parliamentarian Sugath Vasantha de Silva stated recently (on the 3rd) in Horana that by the year 2026, ten 'Low Flow buses' manufactured according to international standards for persons with disabilities in this country are expected to be added to the national transport service. He also mentioned that steps are being taken to pass the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act this year and to gazette the updated regulations on accessibility facilities.

Speaking further, the MP stated that the national policy on persons with disabilities is expected to be finalized this year. The ultimate goal is to create an empowered disabled citizen with rights. He also emphasized that the government is committed to providing a dignified life for persons with disabilities within an inclusive society, economically, politically, and culturally.

The MP also stated that at this moment, one year after the National People's Power government came to power, a significant amount of work has been done for the welfare of persons with disabilities. Payments for persons with disabilities have been significantly increased, and the necessary financial allocations for this have been made to every Divisional Secretariat without any limitations. The opportunity has now arisen for persons with disabilities to register for and receive relevant allowances without remaining on waiting lists. Sugath Vasantha de Silva further explained that in addition to supporting their daily lives through these measures, efforts have been initiated to make them citizens with equal rights, fully integrated into the socio-economic process of this country.

However, MP Sugath Vasantha accused that since the opposition has no vision or program, they are trying to mislead the public through the media by seizing on minor issues. However, he further stated that the vast majority of people in this country will not be deceived by these actions of the opposition, and that the public has not forgotten what they have done and said.
