At least seven people have died and more than ten others have been injured in a suicide bomb attack on a wedding ceremony held in Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, a northwestern oil-producing region of Pakistan, local media reported. The attack, which took place last Friday night, occurred at the home of Noor Alam Mehsud, head of the 'Aman' Peace Committee, a pro-government armed group, and he was also reportedly injured in the explosion.
The attack, which occurred while guests were dancing to music, caused the building's roof to collapse, and rescue teams worked tirelessly to free those trapped under the debris. Following the attack, armed individuals opened fire, and police suspect the bomber was a young man approximately 17 years old. It has been confirmed that Wahidullah Mehsud, also known as Jigri Mehsud, a prominent member of the peace committee, is among the deceased, and the injured have been promptly admitted to the district's main hospital.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi strongly condemned the incident and ordered the provincial police chief to conduct an immediate investigation and submit a report. Although no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, security forces have strong suspicions about Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an organization operating near the Afghan border. This organization, which considers peace committee members as traitors, had previously targeted Noor Alam Mehsud in several attacks, but security forces managed to thwart them.
